Subject-Verb Agreement
Subject singular হলে verb singular, subject plural হলে verb plural — এটাই Agreement। কিন্তু কিছু বিশেষ ক্ষেত্রে নিয়ম উল্টে যায়, আর পরীক্ষায় সেগুলোই আসে।
Agreement-এর নিয়মাবলি
সহজ করে বুঝি
নিয়মটা সহজ — এক হলে verb-এ s, একাধিক হলে verb-এ s নেই। মজার ব্যাপার হলো, noun-এ s থাকলে verb-এ s থাকে না, আর noun-এ s না থাকলে verb-এ s থাকে (The boy runs / The boys run)।
কিন্তু পরীক্ষা সরাসরি এটা জিজ্ঞেস করে না। প্রশ্ন করে জটিল বাক্য দিয়ে — যেখানে subject আর verb-এর মাঝে অনেক শব্দ ঢুকিয়ে দেওয়া হয়।
তাই একটাই কৌশল: মাঝের শব্দগুলো ঢেকে দিয়ে আসল subject খুঁজে বের করো। ‘The quality of the mangoes is good’ — subject ‘quality’ (singular), ‘mangoes’ নয়।

‘as well as / along with / together with’ subject-কে plural করে না — verb প্রথম subject অনুযায়ী বসে।

Relative Pronoun-এর পরে Verb
Relative pronoun (who/which/that)-এর verb তার antecedent (যাকে নির্দেশ করছে) অনুযায়ী হয়।
- He is one of the boys who are present. (who = boys → plural)
- He is the only one of the boys who is present. (only one → singular)
- This is one of the best books that have been written.

পরীক্ষার ফাঁদ
- ‘as well as / along with / with’ থাকলে verb প্রথম subject অনুযায়ী, দ্বিতীয়টি নয়।
- A number of → plural verb; The number of → singular verb।
- Either…or / neither…nor-এ verb নিকটবর্তী subject অনুযায়ী।
মনে রাখার কৌশল
- Subject আর verb-এর মাঝের বাড়তি শব্দ ঢেকে দিয়ে আসল subject খোঁজো।
- Noun-এ s থাকলে verb-এ s নেই, noun-এ s না থাকলে verb-এ s আছে।
