The Adjective & Degree
Noun বা Pronoun-এর দোষ, গুণ, অবস্থা বা সংখ্যা প্রকাশ করে Adjective। আর তুলনার তিনটি স্তরই Degree — BCS-এ Degree পরিবর্তন প্রায় প্রতিবার আসে।
Adjective ও তার ক্রম
সহজ করে বুঝি
ইংরেজিতে একাধিক Adjective পাশাপাশি বসলে তাদের একটা নির্দিষ্ট সিরিয়াল আছে — এলোমেলো করলে কানে খারাপ শোনায়।
‘a beautiful small old round black Chinese wooden dining table’ — খেয়াল করো, মতামত আগে, তারপর আকার, বয়স, আকৃতি, রং, দেশ, উপাদান, শেষে উদ্দেশ্য।
মনে রাখার শব্দ: OSASCOMP — Opinion, Size, Age, Shape, Colour, Origin, Material, Purpose। নেটিভরা এটা না শিখেই মানে, আমাদের শিখে নিতে হয়।
Adjective-এর প্রকারভেদ

Degree of Comparison
সহজ করে বুঝি
তুলনা করার তিনটি ধাপ — একজনের কথা বললে Positive (tall), দুইজনের তুলনায় Comparative (taller), সবার মধ্যে সেরা হলে Superlative (tallest)।
পরীক্ষায় সাধারণত এক degree থেকে আরেক degree-তে বদলাতে বলে। সূত্রটা ছোট: Superlative-এ ‘the …est of all’, Comparative-এ ‘…er than any other’, Positive-এ ‘No other … as … as’।
একটা বিশেষ ফাঁদ মনে রাখো — superior, inferior, senior, junior, prior, preferable — এই ল্যাটিন শব্দগুলোর পরে ‘than’ নয়, ‘to’ বসে।
Degree গঠনের নিয়ম

elder/eldest কেবল পরিবারের সদস্যদের ক্ষেত্রে (my elder brother); বয়সের তুলনায় older/oldest।
Degree পরিবর্তন (এক বাক্য তিন রূপে)

আংশিক তুলনায়: Very few boys are as tall as Karim = Karim is taller than most other boys.
‘than’ নয়, ‘to’ বসে — Latin Comparatives
- superior to, inferior to (He is superior to me.)
- senior to, junior to (She is senior to him.)
- prior to, anterior to, posterior to
- preferable to (Tea is preferable to coffee.)
- ভুল: He is superior than me. ✗
যেসব Adjective-এর তুলনা হয় না
এগুলো নিজেই চূড়ান্ত অর্থ বহন করে, তাই more/most বসে না।
- unique, perfect, round, square, circular
- eternal, universal, infinite, complete, entire
- chief, ideal, supreme, extreme, full, empty
- ভুল: more unique ✗ / most perfect ✗

পরীক্ষার ফাঁদ
- superior/inferior/senior/junior/prior/preferable-এর পরে ‘to’, কখনো ‘than’ নয়।
- unique, perfect, round, complete — এদের comparative/superlative হয় না।
- elder/eldest শুধু পরিবারে; older/oldest সাধারণ বয়সে।
মনে রাখার কৌশল
- Degree পরিবর্তনের সূত্র: the …est of all ↔ …er than any other ↔ No other … as … as।
- Adjective-এর ক্রম মনে রাখো OSASCOMP দিয়ে।
